Files - recovering - sometimes the housekeeping information that links a file to a specific application gets damaged, resulting in your being unable to open the file.  To reestablish the link, try opening the application first, then open the file from within the application.  If you are successful in opening the file, go immediately to the Save As command and resave your file to a different disk.  The link will be reestablished.
